4 reasons why you should eat more seaweed

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

A lot of people agree with me when I say I believe in seaweed, because it make us feel better and increases our wellbeing. Seaweed is great nutrition because it contains lots of vitamins (A, B, C, E) and minerals (Iodine, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Zink, Iron and more) (1). Seaweed is sometimes referred to as Alginate, Algin or Alginic acid, which forms a compound in form of gel. It belongs to a group of chemicals called polysaccharides. They are often used as thickeners in food, toothpaste, cosmetics and paint to name few. If you see this number on your groceries E-400, E-401, E-402, E-403, E-404 you know it is from seaweed (2).

Seaweed also includes important amino acids, trace elements and dietary fibres (polysaccharide) like Fucoidan. Fucoidan is used medicinally for many health purposes, it is considerate to be able to eliminate the root cause of inflammation and stimulate regeneration of healthy tissue (3).

When we get a great nutrition our body pays us with wellbeing. I just want to share with you four points of what my customers have experienced with SjøBjørg Algae Capsules and possibly why.

1. More energy and overall wellbeing

Seaweed is rich source of Iodine and other important minerals containing antioxidant that improves insulin resistance and boost metabolism. Iodine is an important trace element in the function to thyroid gland that balances hormones, increases metabolism including energy levels and weight regulation (4).

2. Better digestive health

Seaweed is rich in fibre and protein that helps the gut flora and creates a healthy digestion. Can promote growth favorable bacteria (Bifidobacteria).

The Alginic acid can reduce aggressiveness of the gastric juice and restore the normal function of the digestive system. (5)

3. Sugar cravings stopped

Seaweed can balance the blood sugar due to its fibre. The fibre has an affect on the rate of carbohydrate absorption and is able to control carbohydrate and the sugar cravings. (6)

4. Better sleep

Some people experience a good night sleep after start taking the Algae capsules. A study in University of Oxford discovered that higher levels of omega-3 DHA (the fatty acids found in seaweed) were linked to better sleep. According to the lead author Professor Paul Montgomery of University of Oxford, the lower ratios of DHA have been linked with lower levels of melatonin, which fits with their discovery of sleep problems are greater if the DHA level is low. (7)

With that said and as a reminder, you should always get consultation by your doctor before taking any supplements. Do you like seaweed, do you consume seaweed regularly? Please share with us, I'd love to hear from you.

Feel free to share this blog if you want to inform you friends about seaweed. Until next time...

Have a lovely day,

Yours Sigurbjörg
